The Race
What a hurdle race is, in Electric Hurdles
The race is about fifty purposeful steps. The winner takes them fastest. Everything else in the method serves that.

First to Fifty
The hurdle race is roughly fifty steps, and the winner is the athlete who takes them fastest.
The Whole Race in One Sentence
First to Fifty. The hurdle race is about fifty steps. The winner is the athlete who takes those fifty steps fastest.
“A person who wins the hurdle race is a person that takes the 50 steps the fastest.”
Coach notes
- Fifty is the useful coaching number: accurate enough for the principle, easy to remember, strong enough to organize training.
- Whether a counting convention lands on 49 or 50 adds nothing to the coaching model. The founder named the concept First to Fifty and closed that debate.
- The founder's spoken count: seven or eight steps to H1, four contacts per hurdle interval under his counting convention, about six final steps after H10.
Why the Count Is Fixed
In a hurdle race, everybody takes the same steps.Stride length cannot be stretched to reach the finish faster inside the hurdle pattern. So the race is won by how fast the pattern is completed.
Coach notes
- This is a hurdle-race law, not an open-sprint law. In an open sprint, stride length matters a great deal and stride frequency is one element that may decide the winner.
- In the fixed hurdle-race pattern, the founder states, stride frequency always determines the winner.
- The coaching consequence: practice time goes to repeating the required pattern faster, not to lengthening it.
Count the Fifty
Seven or eight steps to the first hurdle.Four contacts for each hurdle interval.About six steps from the last hurdle to the line.
- Blocks to H17 or 8 steps
- Each hurdle interval, H1 to H104 contacts per interval
- H10 to the finishabout 6 steps
- Race modelabout 50 steps
Coach notes
- The founder's spoken arithmetic in the transcript is internally uneven; the project preserves it as said and does not repair it. The founder's own ruling is that 50 is the number and the exact accounting is not a point of contention.
Open
- Ambiguity The spoken running total in the 2026-08-10 transcript does not add cleanly; men's and women's exact counts were left for the founder to revisit.
The Hurdle Belongs in the Dance
The hurdle is part of one continuous rhythm, not an enemy to defeat.
Do Not Fight the Hurdle
The race is one continuous rhythmic speed expression. The hurdles are features of that rhythm.Do not treat the hurdle as an enemy to defeat or an obstacle to survive.
Coach notes
- Treating each hurdle as part of one rhythm reduces hurdle-centered actions that break the rules of speed.
- The ballet analogy is the founder's: the hurdle belongs in the dance, supported by specialized physical preparation.
- A technical action is acceptable only if it integrates the hurdle without violating the speed relationships the system defines.
Open
- Unresolved The formal "rules of speed" are named in canon but not yet listed by the founder.
Water Over a Rock
The water does not fight the rock.It keeps moving through the available path.
“Hurdling is like water going over a rock. The water doesn't fight the rock. It just takes the path of least resistance, follows gravity, and does what it has to do.”
Coach notes
- This analogy comes from the founder's hurdle mentor. The mentor's identity and exact wording are still open.
- "Follows gravity" belongs to the analogy. It does not contradict "gravity does none of the work," which governs the active foot strike. They work at different layers.
Open
- Needs the founder Mentor identity, wording and date for Water Over a Rock.
KU-015LShapes, Rhythm, Accuracy
Build the shapes first, organize them in rhythm, then make them accurate. Then judge work in three domains: geometry, accuracy, timing.
The Order Is the Method
Shapes first.Rhythm organizes the shapes.Accuracy makes the whole thing repeatable.
Coach notes
- The founder corrected the order to shapes, then rhythm, then accuracy. The order carries load.
- None of the three alone is the method. When the athlete can make the shapes, put them in rhythm and reproduce them accurately, practice has a repeatable object to train.
- Hurdling is not fundamentally an endurance event, and it is not decided by flat foot speed the way a flat sprint is. It still needs some of what makes athletes fast.
Three Things to Judge
Geometry: the shapes.Accuracy: where the athlete takes off and touches down.Temporal: the timing.
“We have geometry, which is the shapes and all that stuff, and we have accuracy, which is where we're taking off and touching down from. We have the temporal information, which is the timing.”
Coach notes
- The founder named these three domains while describing the ABCs, the first drill of the practice where splits are measured.
- Each domain can be checked on its own: geometry by eye and film, accuracy by marks on the track, timing by the watch. The ABCs sit late in the warmup because they are the first point where all three can be read at once.
Open
- Needs the founder The founder offered, and deferred, the full geometric and theoretical account of the shapes.
WALK · b11Shapes Go In, Then Attention Moves On
Shapes are installed early in the practice.Once a shape is in, attention moves to angles, speed, power and violence.
“Now we hope that that heel-to-butt shape is in, and now the intentionality we have is angles, speed, power, and violence.”
Speed Is Electric
Speed is how fast the body can repeat the required motion. In hurdles, that is the fixed race pattern, repeated faster.
Speed Is Primarily Electric
Speed is how quickly the body repeats the required motion. For a sprinter: thigh switching and arm switching through full range. For a hurdler: the race pattern, repeated faster.
“It's my philosophy that speed is primarily "electric".”
Coach notes
- This is not a muscular adaptation only.
- The founder's observation: NCAA-qualifying Division I sprinters, especially hurdlers, sit in roughly the same neighborhood for body fat, muscle mass, weight-room ability and overall athletic profile. At that level, Electric repeated-motion quickness is the separator. The founder confirmed this statement exactly as given.
What Electric Means at the Hurdle
As fast as you can.Do not crash.Keep the discipline of your shapes.
“Electric just means hurdle the hurdles as fast as you can with as much speed as you can and not crash, but also maintain your discipline of your shapes.”
Coach notes
- This is the drill-level definition the founder gave at the 7s of 7-14-21. All three conditions hold at once.
- "Electric overs" is the name of the fast pass in every phase of 7-14-21.
WALK · b7The Speed Levers

Coach notes
- Learning order in the Dance Fast model: establish the mechanic and shapes, establish the rhythm, reduce unnecessary barrier effort, train faster switching inside the same shapes and rhythm, then express it as dancing fast.
- BOIL A FROG then carries close-spacing Pop, Bounce, stiffness, shuffle and forward lean through progressively more race-like drills.
- The halved ground-contact time and 30 percent lower flight time the founder mentioned are his ballpark illustrations, not calculated findings.
KU-009Productive Danger
The hurdle's job is to create a problem. The athlete presses the gas without crashing and lets trained instinct solve it.
The Hurdle's Job
The hurdle's job is to create a problem for the hurdler.Press the gas as fast as you can without crashing.Let animal instinct solve it.
“In Stay Dangerous, the hurdle's job is to create a problem for the hurdler.”
Coach notes
- A hurdler is not at maximum capability while comfortable.
- Speed is electric: the urgent hurdle problem sends a signal from the brain through the nerves to the muscles. The intended signal is "Faster, faster, faster."
- Productive Danger is the founder-approved name for this philosophy.
- Danger is productive when it creates an urgent reaction problem at the athlete's current edge, calls trained instinct into action, stops short of crashing, and is followed by enough recovery for the next exposure.
KU-014Hot Hand
Hot Hand: one player's palms face up under the other's hands. The lower player tries to slap before the upper player pulls away.Hurdling uses the same model.Move the hand before it gets smacked.
- Response
- Commit to speed into the problem
- Meaning
- Push hurdling speed to the edge where instinct takes over
- Response
- Urgency in the nervous system
- Meaning
- The electric brain-to-muscle signal the problem is meant to produce
+1 more cue in notes (N)
Coach notes
- The athlete creates an urgent coordination problem and reacts before conscious comfort can govern the response.
- Nervous-system overload is progressed like muscle overload: present a reaction challenge near the edge, require a faster response without crashing, raise the challenge over sessions and weeks, recover the nervous system, muscles and joints, then present it again.
More cues
- Response
- React before comfort decides
- Meaning
- Hot Hand reaction model
Open
- Unresolved No executable progression variable for nervous-system overload has been defined by the founder yet.
Irresponsible on Purpose
"Irresponsible" is the founder's intentional coaching word.Playing safe does not produce elite hurdling. The athlete is placed in a designed constraint that demands faster instinctive reaction.
Coach notes
- Intentional irresponsibility is not carelessness. The constraint is designed, supervised, progressed and stopped by the coach. Athlete wellness remains the highest revision boundary in the method.
- The founder's practice method for creating the problem is compressed spacing; see Progression, Create the Problem.
What Stay Dangerous Is
A way of thinking and prioritizing, built from credited ingredients. The original part is the composition.
Where It Came From
It began with loving hurdles and wanting to get better.Second and third places became the problem to solve. The aim: turn them into wins while athletes stay fresh, engaged and less exposed to injury.
Coach notes
- The founder investigated the method in depth and experimented with his own athletes before it became a system. He reports that practice inside it is something athletes experience as fun.
- Fun, freshness and injury prevention are founder claims about the system; they are part of its stated purpose, not proven effects.
KU-003Learn to Cook, Not One Recipe
Stay Dangerous is not a fixed drill collection, a training style or a static recipe. It is a way of thinking and prioritizing. The coach learns how to cook.
Coach notes
- The philosophy, way of thinking, prioritization logic and general seasonal themes are stable.
- Drills, drill combinations, drill order and the athlete-specific prescription change.
- Performance outcomes ordinarily change the prescription, not the methodology. Wellness failures produced by the method change the method.
KU-007Four Credited Ingredients
Stay Dangerous does not claim original ingredients. Its contribution is the composition: selection, exclusion, sequence, practice rhythm and athlete-specific translation.

- KOT enters the practice physically at the fence in the activation block: toe raises, calf raises, Patrick steps and ATG split squats.
- The double knee block drill came from a friend of the program, Coach Kevin.

Same Practice, Same Results
Practice organization must look for an edge.An average is not a target. In a race of nine, the average points at fifth.
“If we do the same things every other team does in practice, we'll get the same results other teams get in games.”
Coach notes
- The founder refuses to turn descriptive averages, such as an average takeoff distance or average weekly meters, into prescriptions.
- Founder additions inside the composition include extreme fun and music, timing every repetition, filming every repetition, athlete investigation of time and form on film, and an intentional practice ramp in which each phase builds a specific part of the race.
KU-008What This Is and Is Not
How to read every page of this site: founder method, founder statement, synthesis, and what is still open.
How to Read This Site
Plain text is the founder's statement or founder method.Italic text is the content team's connective reading, offered for the founder to confirm.Open items mark what the founder has not yet fully described.
Coach notes
- The corpus writes down what the founder does. It does not add permission or safety language of its own on top of his method.
- Measured values on this site are the founder's practice numbers unless a source document is named.
What the Results Show and Do Not Show
The founder reports championship and record-level results from athletes he directly coached. Those results establish extraordinary performance and its timing.By themselves they do not isolate why it happened.
Coach notes
- The founder's own evidence standard begins with outcomes: repeated championships, records, deep distributions of elite times, and changes aligned with entering or leaving the method. His stated test is six world records.
- Official results, wind, hurdle specifications, training records, film and competing explanations are the project's reconciliation work. This site teaches the method; it does not present those outcomes as independently verified.
- The claim is athlete-specific: the system worked for athletes the founder directly coached. Generalization to other athletes is a hypothesis, not a promise.
